THE 38 RECORD SHOPS
Montréal keeps North America's most Euro-facing crate.
Montréal's record scene runs through Mile End and the Plateau — Aux 33 Tours, Cheap Thrills, Beatnick, Sonik and La Rama. The dig is heavier on European imports, French pop, Quebec folk and jazz than any other North American city.
Constellation, Kranky-adjacent Montréal post-rock and the vinyl-DJ culture at Casa del Popolo and Le Ritz PDB give the city an identity that feels closer to Berlin than to Toronto. Prices are Canadian, quality is high, and the whole map is walkable.
THE FIVE ROOMS

The long-running institution — books and records, deep second-hand across all genres. A Montréal rite.
Curated new-and-used — jazz, soul, funk, hip-hop. The DJ counter.
Sharp small shop — indie, punk, dance. The tastemaker's neighbourhood counter.
Newer shop, already essential — curated indie, jazz, Quebec pressings, in-stores.
